It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of the untimely passing of Brother Mark Lightfoot #2986. We were hopeful and optimistic that Mark would once again recover from the cancer that he has battled for the last three years. However after a long and courageous battle, Mark finally succumbed to this disease. At the time of his passing Mark was surrounded by family and friends.
On behalf of the Lightfoot family, we would like to express our thanks for all the support and well wishes during this most difficult time. You were all amazing and the family couldn't say enough about how much they appreciated all that you did for them. Now that Mark is no longer with us, the family will need our support more than ever. We now have a duty and a responsibility to honor Mark's life and remember him for all that he gave.
We will keep everyone apprised of the arrangements as they become available. Please keep the Lightfoot family in your thought's and prayers.
Gazette Article on Brother Lightfoot
To All FOP Lodge 89 Members,
In light of the recent Gazette article, several members have inquired about the public release of their names and salaries. Under the Maryland Public Information Act, a "public record" that must be disclosed, upon appropriate request, is defined to include "a document that lists the salary of an employee of a unit or instrumentality of the State government or of a political subdivision." The statute generally is construed in favor of disclosure "unless an unwarranted invasion of the privacy of a person in interest would result," but by including salaries of employees within the definition of "public record," the statute makes clear that disclosure of salaries is not an unwarranted invasion of privacy.
Finally, the statute also makes clear that retirement records, other than the simple fact that a person is receiving a pension, are not to be disclosed to the general public, and that inspection should be denied for any public record that contains the home address or telephone number of an employee of a unit or instrumentality of the State or of a political subdivision unless . . . (1) the employee gives permission for the inspection; or (2) the unit or instrumentality that employs the individual determines that inspection is needed to protect the public interest."
