The Fraternal Order of Police® was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1915 by two local Pittsburgh
Police Officers who were concerned about the hours and working conditions that they and their fellow officers had to endure. What these two officers started over 80 years ago has grown into the largest National Police Order in the United States. The Fraternal Order of Police® has State and local Lodges in almost every state of the Union and has International Affiliates in several countries. The Fraternal Order of Police® have a variety of services available to its members from low cost insurance to legal defense plans for the protection of its members.The Fraternal Order of Police® has established a Grand Lodge, which is currently headquartered in Nashville, TN. The FOP® also has legislative offices located in Washington, DC. The National or Grand Lodge charters State Lodges throughout the United States. It is through these State Lodges that local or subordinate Lodges like Prince George’s County Lodge 89 are chartered. Prince George’s County Lodge 89 currently serves the members of the Prince George’s County Police Department as well as members of various local, county, state,
interstate and federal law enforcement agencies within Maryland. The membership of Lodge 89 currently stands at approximately 2200 Active members and over 800 retirees.Any Prince George’s County law enforcement officer who is interested in F.O.P.® membership can contact Prince George’s County Lodge 89 to inquire about local membership.
